Helping Organisations Gain Benefit from Compliance with Equality Act 2010
The Equality Act 2010 replaces all previous equality legislation. It covers nine characteristics: race, disability, gender, gender reassignment, age, sexual orientation, pregnancy and maternity, marriage and civil partnership, religion or belief. These are known as ‘protected characteristics’. Your organisation may also have other interests, such as promoting equality between different socio-economic groups.
- Public bodies need to respond to the latest changes in legislation in equality and diversity, notably the Equality Act 2010
- This is a good opportunity to consider how to fulfill both moral and legal obligations but also how to ensure distinct and demonstrable benefit to the organisation
- Our aim is to help your organisation identify and implement equality and diversity actions that are central to everything you do, at all levels.
How we can help
Through dedicated workshops and consultancy services, we can help organisations create a roadmap that can meet their statutory duties under the Equality Act 2010. Through consultation with staff, stakeholders and equality and diversity experts, and by applying best practice, you will be able to clarify your aims and objectives and establish which activities fit-in best your organisation’s external and internal roles, as well as the available equality mechanisms.

Our roadmapping approach builds on the work with over 100 science institutions across Europe to help increase their capacity for action on the gender dimension in science. The roadmap has four core areas where actions may be necessary and leading to an integrated plan for improvement by addressing the equality and diversity issues. The focus is to create an action plan that leads to improvements in:
- Internal processes and practices by, for example, removing any existing, or preventing potential, inequalities;
- the management of the human capital, for example, by promoting diverse styles of leadership and inclusive membership of committees;
- how organisational knowledge and strategic visions are communicated and shared across all levels; and
- the monitoring and reporting of progress made in order to ensure compliance with the Equality Act 2010, as well other relevant regulations.
